This property in Mound, MN had a lot going on - pool area, wooded beds, foundation plantings, and beds running along a long sloping yard. Without a solid edge holding everything together, it all just kind of bleeds into itself. Mulch migrates into the grass, grass creeps into the beds, and the whole yard starts to look messy no matter how well everything is maintained.
We installed concrete curbing throughout the property using a slate stamp finish and a walnut/charcoal color blend. That combination gives it a really natural, earthy look that fits right in with the wooded setting. It doesn't try to compete with the landscaping - it just frames it cleanly.
Concrete curbing is one of those upgrades that works on two levels. First, it looks sharp. Second, it actually does a job. Unlike plastic edging that shifts and pops out, or steel edging that rusts and cuts, poured concrete curbing is permanent. It stays put through Minnesota winters, holds mulch where it belongs, and keeps the mower off the beds.
A property like this one has a lot of curves and grade changes to work around. Getting curbing to flow naturally through that kind of terrain - around trees, along the foundation, down toward the pool area - takes more than just pouring concrete in a line. The slate stamp detail adds texture that breaks up the surface and keeps it from looking flat or industrial.
The result is a yard that looks intentional. Every bed has a defined boundary. The lawn has a clean edge to grow up to. And the homeowner doesn't have to re-edge by hand every few weeks just to keep things looking right.
